Field Expedient Repair – Or Not…

A perfectionist meets baling gum and chewing wire…

On Reading – or not

For whatever reason, my eyes just vacuum up words, even when I’m not intending to read. Sometimes things get a bit mangled in the process. Just now, on the way to get a soda from the basement fridge, I walked past a partial box of football screws. (Don’t quite recall where I used them.)  Reaching for my razor one day, I noticed a new tube of Antigravity Toothpaste, just laying there on the counter.  Obviously defective, but I made sure to keep a firm grip on my toothbrush, just in case.

The latest case is when I hopped on over to Ed’s blog at softsolder.com to see if his daily post was up. I glimpse the link to Decorative Slug and hit the refresh button.  The next words that come into focus are “Not quite enough voltage for a two-cell battery…”

But, but – can you even make a battery from a slug?

“But, but – can you even make a battery from a slug?” Yeah, but then all your stuff would be sluggish.

Okay, this was funny. I like the idea of antigravity toothpaste, but thought you were wise to keep a “firm grip” on your toothpaste. That was funny in two ways:~)

I don’t necessarily struggle with words in the same way you do, but I must admit my brain sometimes struggles to find the right word or name. While I know this could be a symptom of early A, I prefer to think of it as a very FULL brain. meaning, of course, it takes some time to find things:~)

Regarding the question about the slug, I can’t beat Linda’s comment:~)

For as long as I can remember, my mother would call roll when she wanted to speak to my father, brother, or me. Likewise, she would reel off all the rooms when telling you where to find something. Nowadays, I do the same thing, and I will happily ascribe the problem to a full brain.

Now Linda, well, she’s just hard to beat anyway.

“Antigravity Toothpaste” – HA! That made me laugh out loud.

lol @ the anti-gravity toothpaste….though would be cool if, after you brushed, you could just float through your day. 🙂

My Mom used to do the role call and I still do it myself…even with my pets!

When I roll call with the cats, I sometimes finish by quoting the Bill Cosby line: “What’s your name boy? And don’t lie to me because I’m your father, and I will find out who you are!”

Okay, so that’s the toothpaste they use in Outerspace, right?? 🙂

Awesome to meet you, Jim. Your wife has been one of my absolute favorite blogging peeps for a long time, nice to get a deeper glimpse into her and your realm!

Ah, that’s what they mean by anti-gravity – so it’s easier to dispose of when you are finished brushing your teeth…
Hopefully I can provide an entertaining look into the odd little planet the two of us live on.

Hi Jim .. welcome to the blogging world – for some reason I think you can make a battery out of toothpaste and its tube – but my memory is many years old on this one … and it’s probably wrong!

Field Expedient Repair .. do you repair overseas?!

    Cheers Hilary

    • Jim R August 31, 2013 at 11:39 am

Hi Hilary- I remember when toothpaste tubes were made out of metal, so you probably could have made a battery from one. As far as working overseas, the answer is essentially no. I did one installation project fifteen years ago, but haven’t been called on to do any repairs.

Don’t buy anything marked “Anti-gravity”. It’s just a rip-off. It never works except on Star Trek.

Well, I’m a little late to the party, but welcome to the blogosphere, Jim! A place where your vacuuming up mangled words will come in quite handy. 🙂

Jim, Michael giggled when I read your blog to him! I glad you started blogging and look forward to seeing your posts. I’m gonna get back into it too. Now Michael has his own at http://mmwonderwhy.blogspot.com. Today he posted about his WobbleBot he created. If we still lived near you then you could teach him soooo much about all he wonders about. Miss you all.
